Abstract

This study, aligned with the first thematic axis of the conference on the theoretical and epistemological foundations of integration between Arabic linguistic and Islamic sciences, aims to explore the theoretical and methodological bases for merging disciplines such as rhetoric, literature, and grammar with jurisprudence and Qur’anic exegesis. This is achieved through practical analyses of selected essays by Sheikh Abdul Latif Ahmed Al-Shuwairif.

The study highlights Al-Shuwairif’s remarkable proficiency in epistemological integration, demonstrating his mastery of linguistic and Islamic sciences. This mastery has established him as a prominent figure in modern Libyan literary essay writing, with his articles uniquely integrating linguistic aesthetics, literary eloquence, Islamic sciences, history, philosophy, and sociology within a comprehensive epistemic vision.

Despite the significance of this contribution, his writings have not received extensive academic attention. This study, therefore, addresses this gap by exploring how Al-Shuwairif achieved this integration and its impact on the appeal and effectiveness of his literary and religious discourse. A descriptive-analytical approach was adopted to examine a selected sample of Al-Shuwairif’s essays from his book “Models and Images.”

The findings reveal Al-Shuwairif’s epistemological integration as a unique, creative model of scholarly innovation, moving beyond mere transmission to an encyclopedic literary-religious discourse. This approach deepens the Islamic message by connecting it to literature, language, and contemporary realities, enhancing its pedagogical and proselytizing impact, particularly in addressing societal issues and utilizing the essay as an effective educational tool, while also highlighting the aesthetic dimension of Islamic heritage. This study thus fills a research gap by providing an analytical framework for Al-Shuwairif’s integrative mechanisms and documenting a pioneering, understudied experience, thereby opening new avenues for interdisciplinary research in contemporary Islamic literature.
