Semantic Structural Contextual Indicators and Their Impact on the Interpretation of the Holy Qur’an: A Theoretical and Applied Study

Abstract

 The problem of this study lies in the following main question, which the research seeks to answer: What is the role of semantic structural indicators in guiding the interpretive meanings of the Holy Qur’an? And how do these indicators enable a correct understanding of the divine intent while avoiding deviation in interpretation? Accordingly, this study aims to: identify the types of semantic structural indicators found in the Qur’an and highlight their impact on Qur’anic interpretation. The adopted methodology is the selective analytical approach, combining theoretical foundation with practical application, drawing upon the statements of Qur’anic commentators, and providing clear examples for each indicator. The study discusses the semantic structural indicators through four main sections, addressing the indicators of predication (isnād), specification (takhsīs), relation (nisbah), and dependency (tab‘iyyah), and their influence on the interpretation of the Qur’an.

The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which are: That semantic structural indicators constitute one of the essential foundations relied upon by exegetes in understanding and interpreting the Qur’an. Neglecting these indicators leads to deficiencies in grasping the divine intent and may result in interpretive possibilities that deviate from the intended meaning. The study also recommends that students of knowledge pay due attention to the study of grammar and rhetoric in order to understand the meanings of the Qur’an accurately, to encourage specialized research on the impact of structural indicators in interpretation, and to emphasize the danger of superficial understanding of texts without consideration of context and meaning.
