Correcting Linguistic Performance in Religious Language: Al-Jazari's Al-Muqaddimah Al-Jazariyyah as a Model: A Study in the Light of Applied Linguistics

Abstract

This research aims to identify the characteristics of sound linguistic performance in religious language and its correction methodology within Tajweed poems, examining its impact on correcting general Arabic performance due to the profound links between Sharia and linguistic sciences. The study employs a descriptive-analytical approach, using linguistic correction standards across phonetic, morphological, syntactic, orthographic, and semantic levels. The sample consists of "Al-Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah" by Imam Ibn al-Jazari (d. 833 AH), a precise yet previously unexplored text in this context. Key findings reveal that Ibn al-Jazari addressed phonetics and phonology, including suprasegmental phonemes, while integrating morphological and syntactic levels to demonstrate their impact on meaning. The study highlights the uniqueness of Quranic orthography and its overlap with standard spelling. It concludes that correct performance is intrinsically linked to meaning, establishing general correction criteria such as analogy (Qiyas), constant practice, and avoiding affectation, thereby illustrating how religious Tajweed enhances general Arabic linguistic performance.
